2013_09_02 Holy Spirit

Throughout the Old Testament you find detail in reference to the place in which God is to reside in on earth. From the Ark of the Covenant to the Tent of Meetings to the Temple in Jerusalem, God gave specific and detailed instructions for the building, care, maintenance, and use of His Temple. There was also great attention given to the purity of the sacrifices that were to be offered to God and how they were to be offered.

Then as He sent forth prophets to call His people into repentance before the fall of Jerusalem, the Temple and the sacrifices offered in it were main subjects of discussion. He rebuked them for letting it fall into disrepair, for offering blemished sacrifices, and for allowing the unclean to enter into it. Even after the Exile, the Lord urges them to feel the urgency to rebuild the Temple {Haggai 1}.

It is through these lessons about the Temple and the sacrifices offered to God that His people are taught about the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh to bring about salvation for all who believe. It is also through these lessons that we can learn what expectations the Father has in regards to His Temple and the sacrifices offered to Him. Those rules still apply! The location of the Temple and the nature of the sacrifice is what has changed.

Our bodies are now both the temple of {1 Corinthians 6:19} and the sacrifice to {Romans 12:1} the Living God! With us, the Lord constructed the building Himself, but the care, maintenance, and use is our responsibility. The Holy Spirit resides in us at all times seeking what we see, hearing what we hear, and experiencing what we do. His home is decorated and adorned by what we put in it through eat and drink. Its foundations and structure is maintained through our exercise and physical activity.

Therefore this week, the call is to repair the Temple of the Holy Spirit and cleanse it of impurity. As with last week, this is not a set of rules to check off a list, but a renewing of the mind and a dedication in of the heart to strive daily for that perfection we are called for. It is a mandate to be honored and obeyed! As 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 states, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.” It takes time, effort, and commitment but the communion received in the process is beyond worth it! Praise God, he reads our hearts and counts our desires to our account and He gave us the blood of Jesus to cover us when we fall short!

With that in mind, this week’s action steps are:

1. Inventory my diet and remove any unclean items or combination of items {Malachi 1:7-8; Leviticus 11; Deuteronomy 14:1-21}

2. Get intentional and dedicated physical activity 5-6 days a week {Proverbs 6:6-11; Proverbs 23:19-21}

3. Fast one day a week {Matthew 6:16-18; I add these verses to show it says “when” you fast, not “if” you fast. There are times it is called for, but the frequency is Spirit led for most people. This is simply a starting point for me to renew the practice of fasting.}

4. Revise my hygiene and beautification practices {I have a serious spiritual pull towards Esther in this regard}

5. Reconnect with the passion about covering my head and bring creativity back into the picture. {This is purely a personal option. I was called to covered my head and hair about a year ago and have gotten complacent with it lately. My passion and excitement needs some revival action. I am in no way saying this is in any way a “must-do”. I cover this with Romans 14:22-23.}

As with last week, I will be posting goodies in the group, so come by join the fellowship! And as always, sharing here is welcomed! Be blessed beloved!~

Surrendered to Him~
