2014_05_11 Hydration

We were starting to talk about optimizing energy levels last week and if the answers to your questions came out anywhere near the answers to mine, then we’ve got some work to do! The very first thing I want to address is water consumption. Many of us don’t drink nearly as much water as our bodies need to flush itself efficiently. I know for me that it usually the biggest cause of swelling and bloating.

At one point or another, most of us have heard that we need 8 glasses {at 8oz. each} of water a day. Current studies now show that the more accurate reading is that we need to drink half our body weight in ounces a day. So for me that would be rounded up to 18 glasses of water a day. Talk about a motive to lose weight…lol! But seriously, without that proper hydration our bodies don’t have what they need to give us the energy to exercise, to keep our stomachs clean so that nutrients can be better absorbed {which helps curb cravings and hunger}, and to rid our bodies of the extra that we aren’t using.

Water can be a tricky thing though and it is very important that you listen to your body, because there are dangers in drinking too much water in too short a period of time. So what I usually do is start out drinking an extra cup of water each day. This way my body gets time to adjust and I can better manage the effects of the sudden influx of fluids. For some people this may need to be extended to a weekly increase instead of a daily one. The point is to find the balance that you can stick with and build upon and that your body responds to. You will most likely find though, as you start your body will begin to crave it more and more and you may be increasing more rapidly down the line. So wherever you are, whether you are drinking no water or 7 glasses, add one little ole bitty 8 ounce glass of water to your day today!

For best results, do this right after you get out of bed in the morning. Walk straight to the kitchen and have that first glass right away. Those first hours in the morning are when your body is doing the bulk of its detoxification, so any help you can give it right then is a blessing to the process. And for those of you who are less enthused about this whole idea, it will get it out of the way for you and then you can go about your day in peace know you got that over with 😉 .

Also this week, take a look at how your body responds when you eat certain things. Do you get sleepy after lots of starches or are you energized? Are you sluggish after a meal heavy with meat or are you geared up and fueled for work? Does fruit satisfy you for long periods of time or do you need something more substantial to hold you through the day? This will all help you to better plan the placement of your meals so that what you consume is working for you and your goals for the day and not against you.

For those of you looking for a bit of accountability partnership, I have revived my SparkPeople account to help me on this journey back into the land of vibrancy. You are more than welcome to friend me there, or anywhere else for that matter. I’m always open to having companions on my journeys. If at least five people who are serious about participating would like a group for this, I am also open to one of those, but I must have people who are committed to take that on. I pray you all strong will and determination beloved! Be blessed! Shalom!~

Surrendered to Him~
