The last constellation in our journey through Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars by Dawnita Fogleman is Leo. Of all the constellations, this is the one that I find to be the most recognizable from a Messianic standpoint. I’m excited to be digging through these different aspects of the Lion of Judah!

Leo, The Lion of Judah

The Hebrew name for Leo is Ari {Strong’s H738}, meaning “lion”. This word is first used in the book of Genesis when God promised that there would rise up a Lion from the tribe of Judah {Genesis 49:9} and is confirmed in Revelation 5:5 where it says, “…Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered…” . As Yeshua was there in the beginning {John 1:1-5}, so too was the promise that He would rise into this office and conquer the adversary, satan, and all the evil He inspires once and for all. I find it very powerful that God chose to end His story with this powerful promise of victory for all who maintain Faith and obedience!

The Hebrew month for this constellation is Av. The month of Av seems to be a bit empty, but with a bit of math and a quick search in history it quickly becomes apparent that there is significance here. It all starts with the 12 spies sent out in the month of Av when the Israelites were on the verge of the Promised Land the First time, and, more significantly, the bad report that 10 of them brought back that inspired Israel’s rebellion against God’s command to go forth and take possession of the land {Numbers 13:1-14:10}. Tradition holds this happened on the 9th of the Av, making it the first tragic event of the Fast of Tisha B’Av, which is also the day that both the first and second temples were set on fire. It was this event that spurned God’s wrath, left the Israelites wondering the desert for 40 years until that generation died, and marked the beginning of the downhill trend with the children of Israel. How powerful that this is the month in which God choses to write the story of Yeshua final coming, the final battle of Yeshua and the saints against the adversary, and the final victory that releases Creation from the bonds that have been holding it hostage {Romans 8:21} and restores us to our Edenic state!

The Decans of Leo

The first decan of Leo is Corvus. There appears to be no Hebrew name for this decan, but this concept has deep prophetic meaning in the Word. See Corvus is seen as a bird of prey feeding on the slain Hydra. It is a common theme in the Word for birds of prey to feed on the remains of the slain enemies of God.

{Part of the curse for disobedience to God’s commands} “And your dead body shall be food for all birds of the air and for the beasts of the earth, and there shall be no one to frighten them away.”
Deuteronomy 28:26 {ESV}

{Part of what David told Goliath} “This day יהוה will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,”
1 Samuel 17:46 {ESV}

{Part of Jeremiah’s prophecy about Jerusalem} “And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth, and none will frighten them away.”
Jeremiah 7:33 {ESV}

{Part of Yeshua’s Revelation of the End of Days} “Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, “Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.” And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”
Revelation 19-17-21 {ESV}

Next up is Crater. Though there seems to be no Hebrew name for this decan either, it is also a very familiar concept in the Word. We must remember however, that this is not just any cup we are dealing with here. It is the cup of judgment and wrath, hence the reason it is attached to the Hydra. It is to be poured out upon the adversary and all who follow him.

“And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.”
Revelation 14:9-10 {ESV}

“The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath.”
Revelation 16:19 {ESV}

The last decan is Hydra. This decan doesn’t have a Hebrew name either, but the connection here is hard to miss. This is a view of the adversary, satan, back in the form he took when this all began in the Garden of Eden. This time, however, he doesn’t stand a chance! He will be defeated by the Lion of Judah, who will pour out the cup of HaShem’s wrath upon him, depositing him in the lake of fire and leaving the remains of his followers for the birds of prey to feed on.

Lessons from Leo

יהוה is serious about His plan for ultimate and complete restoration of His people. He has a flawless design and He has been gracious enough to lay it all out for us to see. He gave us all the instructions we need to make it successfully home and all we have to do is follow them and keep our eyes open to the signs. It is plain to see looking at this last chapter of what will happen in the End of Days how important it is to come out from the world and align ourselves fully with God alone!

I pray you are inspired and renewed on your path to reviving and renewing your Faith walk with Him! Shalom beloved!~
